LAMBORGHINI GALLARDO IN INDIA NEWS AND PHOTO GALLERY

Lamborghini Gallardo coming to India

The ultimate car to drool over - the Lamborghini Gallardo will set Indian roads ablaze.

25 December, 2005
MUMBAI, INDIA

The luxury cars of the world, such as Maybach, Bentley Arnage and Rolls Royce, are already here in India, for those with the moolah. Now for those in India with the moolah and the racing spirit, here's the Lamborghini Gallardo.

The pricing of the Lamborghini gallardo in India is expected to be announced in 2006 January, quite possibly at the Auto Expo 2006 in New Delhi. The supercar is expected in the first quarter of 2006 - and therefore there is a highly likely chance that the Gallardo will be exhibited in New Delhi at the Auto expo 2006. Expect all newspapers to have large falshy photos of the Italian supercar then.

The distributor of Lamborghini in India will be Exclusive Motors. Rahul Grover, manager (sales) told the press that "the plan is to bring the Lamborghini Gallardo within the first quarter of next year." The price of the Gallardo in India is expected to be Rs 1 crore and Rs 1.5 crore. Gautam Singhania, race car freak and son of Vijaypat Singhania, Sheriff of Mumbai must be licking his lips in anticipation. The company expects to sell no more than 3 units of the car in India in 2006.

Automobili Lamborghini Holding SPA is part of Volkswagen's Audi Group. Lamborghini recently rolled out its 3,000th Gallardo in early December 2005.

It remains to be seen though how Gallardo, which competes with the likes of Ferrari's F30 and Porsche's 911 Turbo, fare in India. Stephan Winkelmann of Lamborghini said that "The problem is not the money in these countries, but the infrastructure."

Lamborghini said that while uit saw growth potential in India, it was 'more concerned with the infrastructure in India'. It should be. Supercars do not ride well with their extremely low stance on rough roads, and even your average Indian bump could possibly strand a Lamborghini. In 2006, perhaps we could catch an occasional Gallardo floating on a small hillock of a bump. Also, there are almost no roads in India where one can safely driev at even a third of the speeds that a Gallardo is capable of. Practicality is almost nil, and there is a highly likely chance that a Lamborghini Gallardo in India will end up only as a show-off car, to be rolled out for that rare exotic car rally or party, or to be parked in frotn of a mansion for guests to admire. We shall see.

Lamnorghini has already said that it sees growth opportunities in countries such as China, India and Russia.

The Lambo Gallardo has a starting price of approximately $75,000.

We will keep you updated with more news on the Lamborghini Gallardo - meanwhile fans are expected to feast their eyes on the photo gallery we will be putting up shortly on this site.
