MERCEDES BENZ F600 HYGENIUS FUEL CELL CAR

Mercedes F600 Hygenius is a fuel cell concept car that can double as a
mobile power source

If you thought Mercedes is about cars alone, you are not alone, but in the company of a clueless majority.
At the Tokyo Motor Show currently underway, Mercedes flaunts its research vehicle that is able to produce enough electricity to power several households.
The carmaker said the fuel cell used for the vehicle provides clean energy for the car and doubles as a mobile power source. It can generate 66 KW of power, which the company said, was sufficient to supply power to “several detached houses,” media reports said. The Tokyo Motor Show ends on November 6.
The vehicle is called Mercedes F600 Hygenius and is powered by a zero-emission fuel cell drive with an output of 85KW/115 hp, using only 2.9 litres per 100 km with a range of 400 km.
By developing the cell, Mercedes aims to create a basis for supplying energy for vehicles of future, in the process enhancing their environmental capability. The fuel cell in the Hygenius is also compact than other Mercedes models.
Professor Herbert Kohler, director of vehicle body and driver research at
DaimlerChrysler, said the vehicle has redesigned fuel stacks, an electric turbocharger and a new humidification and dehumidification system.
Chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen is used by fuel cells to generate electrical power, with virtually zero emission of pollutants. The fuel cell drive generates power output of 60KW/82 hp and a torque of 250 Newton
metres. While the surplus energy is stored in a lithium-ion battery, an electric motor doubles as a generator that charges the battery while applying the brakes by recuperating drive energy.
