Nintendo Wii wins top critics' award at E3

Nintendo Wii bagged the Best of Show and Best Hardware by the Game Critics Awards at E3.

The Nintendo Wii was crowned the Best of Show and Best Hardware by the Game Critics Awards at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2006. The E3 event was held at Los Angeles. The Game Critics Awards, which is an independent group of mediapersons from 37 North American media outlets that cover the video game industry, looked at different categories of games and hardware.

The Nintendo has been the talk of the town this year with gamers at the E3 excited and waiting for hours to get hold of the Nintendo console due to be released later this year.

Nintendo Wii bagged the awards for the best hardware, the best sports titles, the best racing game for Excite Truck and best handheld game for Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for the Nintendo DS. 

Critics raved about how its motion sensor controller that allowed them to play sports games like tennis and football as in real life. Using their body actions, the controller can be used like a knife, a bow or anything that the game demands.

"It's a great story and it's something different," said co-chairman of the Game Critics Awards, Geoff Keighley. Maxis and Electronic Arts' Spore won Best Original Game, Best PC Game, and Best Simulation Game.

Epic Games and Microsoft Game Studios' won awards for Gears of War and UbiSoft's Assassin's Creed.
