14 January, 2006
NEW DELHI, INDIA
Suzuki Zeus and Suzuki Heat, two new bikes from Suzuki Motorcycle India Ltd have been launched. Both Zeus and Heat were unveiled at the Auto Expo 06 which opened in New Delhi on January 11 2006.
Suzuki is the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer. Suzuki Zeus and Suzuki Heat are the company's maiden ventures in the Indian bike market.
Earlier, Suzuki had a joint venture with TVS as TVS-Suzuki. However, Suzuki and TVS parted ways four yars back.
Both Suzuki Zeus and Suzuki Heat are 125 cc bikes. The company plans to sell about 100,000 bikes in India in the first year. Still, this is a far cry from the sales figures of Hero Honda, the market leader which commands about 44% share of the bike market.
Said Suzuki Joint MD Katsumi Takata: "We are upbeat about our plans in India considering that the two-wheeler market here is growing at a steady pace. Our plan is to provide the consumers here with feature-packed bikes in the mass-market category before expanding to cover all other segments."
Suzuki Motorcycle is an Indian subsidiary of Suzuki, Japan, and holds 74% stake in the Indian company. It has invested about Rs 200 crore to manufacture Suzuki Zeus and Suzuku Heat in India. If Zeus and Heat attract more buyers, the company will expand the facilities.
Suzuki Zeus and Suzuki Heat both hope to piggyback on the brand strangth of Suzuki, which has a huge presence in India with the best-selling Maruti Suzuki 800 car.
Both Suzuki Zeus and Suzuki Heat will be available in three colours and will have special features like round crank shaft, aluminum cylinder head, hi-tech spark plug, advanced transmission (5 gears), bigger brake drums (130 mm front and 130 mm rear), de compression valve, primary kick mechanism and unique gear shift indicator. The engine is four-stroke and air-cooled. Heat will be priced at Rs37893 ex-showroom Delhi and Zeus is also expected to hae a similar pricing.
