The executive panel of the short films and feature animation branch of the Academy has named the ten films as eligible to compete.
The Academy executive committee recommended to the Academy's Board of Governors that the category be activated and the Award be given for this year. The board has approved that recommendation.
Films that have not yet been released in Los Angeles County must fulfill all of the general release qualifying rules before the end of the year.
The eligible films in the Animation feature movie category for Oscar 2005 2006 are
Chicken Little, Gulliver's Travel, Hoodwinked, Howl's Moving Castle, Madagascar, Robots, Steamboy, Tim Burton's Corpse Bride, Valiant, Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.
According to the norms framed for the animated feature film category, a maximum of 3 movies can be nominated in a particular year in which the field of eligible entries should be between eight and sixteen.
The animation movies submitted for Oscar in this category can also compete for other prizes like Best Picture etc, if they meet the criteria for those categories.
