REMOTE XT STOLEN MOBILE PHONE SCREAMING SERVICE
Stolen mobile phones that scream
Remote XT now launches a new service to render stolen mobile phones unusable.
9 October 2006
MUMBAI, INDIA
Remote XT launched a new service by the same name yesterday in London that disables stolen mobiles and makes them let out piercing screams and wipes out all data. The scream can be stopped only if the battery is removed. Once the phone is stolen, security commands are activated and the phone is completely locked even if the SIM card is removed.
Phone data can also be backed up to Remote XT's servers, protecting the user's information. For £9.99 a month, users who sign up for Remote XT can expect to have the entire contents of their phones--contacts, email addresses, ringtones, music, and messages to be stored either daily, weekly or monthly.
When users replace their phone, all their data can be transferred to the new phone.
“By making mobiles unusable to anyone but the rightful owner the phones become worthless and we will see the market for stolen handsets stamped out once and for all,” said Mark Whiteman, managing director of Remote XT.
The new service by Remote XT is in support of directives from the National Mobile Phone Crime Unit (NMPCU) and the Home Office to combat cellular crime. According to detective superitendent Steve Bending, "The NMPCU focuses on reducing the market for stolen mobile phones by targeting those who handle or re-program stolen mobile phones and those who seek to export them. The NMPCU is supportive of measures that make mobile phones less desirable items to steal and worthless in the hands of those who seek to profit from mobile phone criminality."
The new service is aimed at business users and professionals who usually store confidential information on their phones.
