16th November, 2005: The world's first WiBro (which stands for Wireless Broadband) phone from Samsung is ready for launch. Samsung will unveil the WiBro mobile phones and systems at the ongoing APEC IT Exhibition during the Asia Pacific Economic Co-Operation (APEC).
Samsung's new WiBro handsets will contain a lot of features like broadcasting, home networking, video telephony and VOD which will be presented at the APEC Exhibition. Samsung, which is a world leader in the field of mobile phones will continue to keep the mobile phone industry alive for a lot more time with its new Broadband enabled WiBro phones.
The most significant ceremony at this year's APEC IT EXhibition is by no doubt, the unveiling of the WiBro phones from Samsung. Samsung is presenting two models of WiBro phones at the ongoing exhibition. The two models are named H1000 and M8000. While the H1000 will be mobile phone type, the M8000 will be PDA type. Samsung is planning to capture the WiBro market in 2006, when the WiBro will be manufactured in a large scale.
Both the H1000 and M8000 phones have QWERTY keypads, which makes it easy for the user to type e-mails on the phone. The H1000 phone can be opened both horizontally and vertically and has a clampshell design with 2.2 inch LCD Screen for better viewing of Internet and e-mail. The dual cameras( 2 mega-pixel and VGA) serve their purpose right. The H1000 also has a TV output function. The M8000 model is having smartphone capabilities.
“We are proud to present the world’s first WiBro terminals and latest DMB phones to the leaders attending the APEC meeting. The WiBro services will be commercialized next year and we will lead this market by providing innovative products to our consumers and provide a shift in paradigm to ease one’s lives,” said Mr. Kitae Lee, President and CEO of Samsung’s Telecommunications Network Business.
The participating APEC and IT leaders can have a live demonstration of WiBro service on a special vehicle with Korea Telecom (KT), which is Korea's largest telecommunication operator. 12 RASs (Radio Access Station) have been installed at 9 spots in Busan by Samsung for the presentation.
