Ponds Femina Miss India 2006 icon hunt begins

MUMBAI, INDIA
A talent hunt for icons has begun. Pond’s Femina Miss India, the prestigious beauty pageant in the country, has started its talent hunt to spot icons who will represent India at international pageants this year.
The applicants should be in the age group of 18 to 26 with January 31 ,2006, as the cut off date. They should be unmarried. The entries close on Jan 5 and the event would be held in March in Mumbai, a statement said.
Making the announcement about the beauty pageant, Munish Purii , National Director, Femina Miss India, said, Pond’s Femina Miss India is a medium which consistently offers a transformation platform for the young aspirants from small towns and big cities into the landscape of opportunities.
This success of the Pond’s Femina Miss India, which enters its 43rd year, has been the result of relentless pursuit towards excellence. This year will also witness the telecast of the countdown to the final in a unique reality format on Zoom, the television channel of the Times group, he said.
The show will also be telecast on Sony, the statement said.
The three winners of the Pond’s Femina Miss India contest will be titled Pond’s Femina Miss Universe, Pond’s Femina Miss World and Pond’s Femina Miss Earth respectively.
They will represent the country in these international pageants.
India’s tryst with beauty pageants began with the elevation of Aishwarya Rai and Sushmita Sen as Miss World and Miss Universe respectively, prompting aspiring young women to make a beeline for a career in fashion industry as well as corporates to splurge money on beauty pageants.
Following the foot steps of Ash and Sush, a host of Indian glam dolls made it big in the industry. And they found it as a stepping stone to a lucrative and glamorous career in Bollywood.
Lara Dutta, Diya Mirza, Yukta Mookhey, Priyanka Chopra and Tanushree Dutta are the glam dolls catapulted to glory by Ponds Femina Miss India.
