Google Music search
A musical twist to Google search.
17 December, 2005: Search engine behemoth Google is linking a music feature to its search, the firm announced.
Google’s move comes after the firm found that a large number of users go for searches related to music. The new feature is being placed above the main search results. It would detail work of featured artists.
Google’s music search details work of featured artistes when a search is entered. It props up information about the artist, albums and even pictures.
The more music link will allow the user to gain access to reviews by users, song titles and music retailers, media reports said.
A link to 'more' music results leads to user reviews, song titles and a choice of online retailers like Apple computers and Realnetwroks, where the music can be purchased.
Google has said there were no plans to charge anyone for the service, although media reports said the firm could cash in on any sale resulting from routing the user to an online store.
Several big names like Yahoo and Microsoft are already in the music search domain, but rivals would be closely watching Google, considering its stranglehold over the search business.
The Searchenginewatch site said the results of music search are put in place by a host of factors including the page rank.
Google’s music search debuts on Friday. The Nasdaq-listed Google’s search results accounts for a substantial chunk of its profits of over $ 4 billion.
