Ponds Femina Miss India 2006 enters last leg

The last 25 participants, from which ten will make it to the Miss India 2006 pageant on March 18, selected.

The battle of beauties is getting hotter with the selection of the last 25 participants for the Pond Femina Miss India contest, in Mumbai on February 7, 2006. Of the 25 selected, ten contestants will make it to the final, to be held on March 18, 2006.

The Miss India 2006 candidates were showcased before the Indian media in a show choreographed by model-actress Aditi Govitrikar and ace designer Hemant Trivedi at Grand Hyatt hotel, Santa Cruz, Mumbai on Tuesday. Their costumes were designed by Shaina NC.

The Pond Femina Miss India contest is one of the glitzy events in the fashion calendar. It is also considered a stepping stone to a glamorous career in Bollywood.

This can be vouched from the fact that many of the recent winners of the Ponds Miss Femina contests have made it big in Bollywood -- Aishwarya Rai (who later went to become Miss World), Sushmita Sen (former Miss Universe), Priyanka Chopra and Lara Dutta to name a few..

The Miss India contest has now taken a popular hue, with public being made a part of the selection process in 2006, aided by the help of a reality show. The show, to be screened on Zoom TV channel from February 22, has been christened Banungi Main Miss India. The first episode of Banungi Main Miss India is at 9. pm on February 22.

Experts from various fields including Ruksana Eisa, Erica D'souza, Sandip Soparrkar, Sabeera Merchant Shikha Sharma, Deanne Pandey and Mehar Bhasin will guide the participants.

Viewers will vote through SMS to select the final ten participants of Ponds Femina Miss India 2006 of the glamour jamboree. Those interested can log on to: http://www.zoom-television.com and vote by SMS - typing BMMI - (The Contestant No) to 8888.

Hemant Trivedi, Daboo Ratnani, and Femina editor Amy Fernandes will be the official judges for the final event.
