MUMBAI, INDIA

For fashionistas in the country, the Lakme India Fashion Week spells five days of flamboyant colours, exquisite designs with some of the best designers in the country showcasing their work, and of course, a lot of glamour to go with it. Scheduled between March 28 th to April 1st, at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai, this extravagant event is jointly being organized by Lakme, the leading cosmetics brand, and IMG, the "global leader in fashion week and event production".

With over 20 fashion shows spread over five days, the Lakme India Fashion Week has now come to ascertain Indian fashion standards to a large extent, and this year, it goes one step higher. At least three designers from the participating designers will win an opportunity to display their creations at the Olympus Fashion Week in New York, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Los Angeles, Mercedes-Benz Australian Fashion Week and the Singapore Fashion Festival, all of which are International events managed by IMG. A select group of experts from IMG, along with a team from Lakme will adjudge the three designers, who will get to be a part of this, as well as various other international shows in Europe that IMG will be working closely with to develop benefits for participants of Lakme Fashion Week.

While the country will follow the triumphs and defeats closely, four representatives each from the United States, European and Asia pacific market of the national and international buyers and media will also witness the show. And the designers who will get to be part of this very niche and highly competitive environment are only those who have showcased their work at least three times during the previous Lakme India Fashion Week events. Two categories, for emerging designers and special invites, are also part of the event. As globalization sets in various aspects of the Indian economy, can fashion really be far behind?

Touted to be THE platform for designers, Fern Mellis, Executive Director, 7th on Sixth and Vice President, IMG is said to have stated, "I have been associated with the Indian Fashion Industry for the last 5 years and have truly seen it evolve and have personally worked with the Indian Designers, facilitating their participation in events like the Olympus Fashion Week in New York, Fashion Coterie and others. Future involvement of selected Lakme Fashion Week participants at international locations such as New York and Los Angeles will provide an unprecedented presence of Indian designers in the global market." Words that exude the future of Indian Fashion, that they claim will put India on the "global fashion map".

Apart from enjoying truly world class attention for five days, the chosen designers will enjoy being part of the various future initiatives that are in the pipeline by IMG worldwide.
