WordPress Fantastico Upgrade – when is it coming?

WordPress 2.7 was officially released on Dec 10, 2008. Like most bloggers who use WordPress for their blogs, I too was eagerly waiting for it.

Just one small glitch. I prefer to use Fantastico in cPanel to upgrade my WordPress installs. So I went right over to my web host’s control panel and checked it out. No luck.

I checked again today, 13th of December. Nyah. No WordPress upgrade yet.

So finally I gave up and chose Keith D’Souza’s WordPress Automatic Upgrade Plugin. Downloaded it, uploaded it using FTP to my WordPress plugins folder, went to my Plugins page and activated it. The clicked on the Automatic Upgrade option.

Everything went without a problem – I just had to keep clicking the Next links blindly, and my WordPress 2.7 install was completed without any trouble at all.

Keith, thanks for this little plugin. I already know this is one of the most popular plugins, one which may not be so important from now on.

WordPress promises to make sure that future installs of WordPress, from now on, would not require any plugin or any manual effort. It should work from with your WordPress dashboard without any trouble. That will become the norm.

No need to wait for your upgrades either, Fantastico men.

Fantastico is a bit of an oddity. Their website looks like its made in the 90s. There is no blog, no quick way to figure out stuff like this. No wen 2.0 gradients or glassy buttons. Their product is good, alright.

So here it is. Starting with this post, Digi-Help will come to y’all courtesy WP 2.7.
